Our Story
The South Sudan Twic Mayardit Community of Arizona A non-profit organization based in Phoenix to respond to the needs of the South Sudanese-Americans in Arizona, SSTMCA was established in 2018. Arizona is home to a large population of South Sudanese and Sudanese refugees and immigrants.
The population of South Sudanese in Arizona is nearly 4,000, most of whom are in the Phoenix Metropolitan area. South Sudan Twic Mayardit Community of Arizona has a center on 3524 W. Calavar Road in Phoenix. The center is a place where South Sudanese, Sudanese, and other immigrants congregated to share memories and celebrations of their cultures.
Currently, the Center is experiencing financial hardship, especially over the last several months when we have all be impacted by the pandemic. The income of the center has been based primarily on the community members’ contributions. Both the members’ capacity to contribute and the second revenue stream, fees charged for events that take place at the center, have fallen. Due to the COVID-19, the center has been forced to closed its doors to preserve public health and safety.

Our goal is to preserve our culture and heritage by enabling our younger members to learn more from/about our culture and to teach them the South Sudanese way of life. Aims and Objectives • To establish a coordinated effort to facilitate, improve communication, support those in need by contributing to the well-being of our people in Arizona. •
To empower our women to aspire for higher education, because “future is a female and educated women raise healthy and smart family.” • To teach our people to be law-abiding citizens in all aspects • To cultivate a trust and respect for a working relationship among our citizens and others • To abide by the moral & ethics as a commitment to serving our community with respect and dignity. • Invest in our youths’ educations, because our youth are the future.
